Care for your vehicle
The alternator supports your vehicle’s electrical system while the engine runs. We offer alternator service for charging concerns.
A charging warning does not automatically mean the alternator has failed. The battery, connections, wiring, and drive belt can affect charging performance and should be considered together.
Before your visit
Describe any battery warning light, dimming lights, or repeated need for a jump-start. Tell us when the battery was last replaced, if known.
Keep the charging system working together
The alternator supplies electrical power while the engine runs and helps recharge the battery. A charging concern may involve the alternator, its drive belt, wiring, connections, or battery condition. Replacing the battery without checking the charging system can leave the original problem unresolved. Modern vehicles may also vary charging output according to operating conditions.
When to arrange an inspection
- A battery or charging warning while driving
- Repeated battery discharge or dimming lights
- Electrical accessories behaving differently with engine speed
Battery trouble or charging trouble?
Tell us whether the vehicle fails to start after sitting or loses electrical power while running. Mention a recent battery replacement, jump-start, belt noise, or added accessories. Testing needs to consider the system as a whole. Do not disconnect a battery while the engine is running to test an alternator; this can damage vehicle electronics.
