Care for your vehicle
The differential is part of the drivetrain that transfers power to the wheels. We offer differential service for maintenance and operating concerns.
Lubricant requirements vary by axle and differential design. Whining, clunks, or leaks may require inspection rather than assuming a fluid change alone will solve the problem.
Before your visit
Describe whether a noise changes with speed, acceleration, coasting, or turning. Bring any known axle or drivetrain service history.
Understand the axle and final drive
The differential allows driven wheels to turn at different speeds during a corner while transferring engine power. Gears, bearings, seals, and the correct lubricant work together. Designs vary, including limited-slip units with particular fluid requirements. Noise or leakage should be evaluated before assuming a fluid change alone will resolve it.
When to arrange an inspection
- Whining that changes with acceleration or coasting
- Clunks or vibration from the drivetrain
- Fluid leakage around an axle or final-drive housing
Bring drivetrain and service details
Tell us whether the vehicle is front-, rear-, or all-wheel drive and whether it is used for towing. The differential, transmission, and transfer case are not necessarily the same fluid compartment. Describe how noise changes while turning and with road speed. Ask about the lubricant specification and service requirements for the actual axle design.
