Care for your vehicle
An illuminated check engine light is a reason to find out what the vehicle’s computer has detected. We offer computer diagnostics and check engine light service.
A trouble code identifies a monitored condition, not necessarily a failed part. Diagnosis uses the symptom and relevant checks to decide what repair is appropriate.
Before your visit
Record whether the light is steady or flashing and any change in engine performance. Avoid clearing codes before your visit because useful diagnostic information can be lost.
A code is a starting point, not a repair order
The check engine light means the vehicle’s onboard system has detected a condition that needs attention. A stored code identifies a monitored fault or operating condition; it does not always identify the failed part. Wiring, leaks, fuel delivery, ignition, and sensor inputs may need to be considered together.
When to arrange an inspection
- A steady or flashing check engine light
- Rough idle, hesitation, or unusual fuel use
- A warning that returns after being cleared
Keep useful diagnostic information
Avoid clearing codes or disconnecting the battery before the visit unless required for safety. Stored information can help explain what was happening when the fault occurred. Note any recent fueling, maintenance, or change in performance. A flashing light with rough running can indicate a damaging misfire; reduce load, stop safely, and arrange assistance instead of continuing to drive normally.
